Trinity College London approved to provide English language exams for foreign students in Ireland

3 March 2016

Trinity College London, the international exam board offering assessments in over 60 countries worldwide, has recently been named as one of the awarding bodies approved to provide English language tests for foreign students in Ireland, following a series of reforms to the student immigration system.

Since January 2016, only providers who can demonstrate that they have reached an acceptable quality standard appear on the Interim List of Eligible Programmes (ILEP), approved by the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS).

Trinity is one of five awarding bodies approved to provide English language proficiency exams at the conclusion of an English language programme, taken with a provider on the Interim List.

Trinity will offer the Integrated Skills in English (ISE) exam, starting from Foundation level (A2), for students who need to demonstrate their English language proficiency.

ISE assesses students’ ability to interact in English in an authentic and meaningful way through the use of integrated reading and writing tasks, and integrated speaking and listening tasks. Preparing for ISE builds real-life English skills and transferable skills required for academic study and employability.

Sarah Kemp, Chief Executive of Trinity College London, said: ‘We have been assessing English language proficiency since 1938. Being a listed supplier on the Interim List of Eligible Programmes in Ireland is further confirmation of the excellent standard of Trinity’s exams.’

Notes to Editors

The full list of English language test providers on the Interim List of Eligible Programmes is available on the INIS website.

Trinity’s Integrated Skills in English (ISE) exam tests all four skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing. Trinity tests reflect real life contexts and are an excellent way of assessing the communications skills that people need every day in the UK.
