Trinity and the Urdd delighted to announce new partnership

From January 2018, young competitors competing in the Solo Song classes in Eisteddfod yr Urdd will be able to offer their competition piece as one of the songs in their Trinity graded singing exam.

We hope that this opportunity to use Eisteddfod yr Urdd competition pieces as a Trinity exam piece will encourage young singers to consider taking a Trinity singing exam and gain a formal qualification. Equally, we would also be delighted if young singers who are already taking Trinity singing exams in Wales would consider competing in Eisteddfod yr Urdd as a way of further developing their performance skills.

“Trinity College London has recognised the quality and rigour of the standards expected by Yr Urdd, which are compatible with the requirements of a Trinity singing exam,” said Chris Locke, General Manager of Trinity College London, UK & Ireland. “In line with our ethos of flexibility in exams and encouraging candidates to play to their strengths, offering one of the Eisteddfod competition pieces in an exam was a natural step.”

Llio Maddocks, Assistant Organiser of the Urdd Eisteddfod, added:

“The partnership is an exciting development that will enable competitors to use the piece that they have learned for the Eisteddfod as part of their graded singing exam. In 2018, the Year 2 and under solo piece will be eligible for Trinity’s initial exam and the solo pieces for years 3-4 and 5-6 eligible for the Grade 3 exam and the solo competitions for secondary school age up to 25 years are eligible for grades 4 to 8.”

“One of the Urdd Eisteddfod’s main objectives is to showcase the talent of the young people of Wales and give them a platform to perform. This new partnership is proof of the quality of the pieces performed on the Eisteddfod stage and offers the option for our members to further develop their talent and gain an internationally recognised qualification.”

We are also pleased that a number of Welsh composers will be represented in Trinity exams through this partnership, as we recognise the importance of the Welsh language and the part in which music plays in its continued growth.

Lansio Partneriaeth Newydd Trinity College London a’r Urdd

O Ionawr 2018, bydd cystadleuwyr yng nghystadlaethau Unawdau Eisteddfod yr Urdd yn gallu defnyddio darnau gosod yr Eisteddfod ar gyfer eu harholiadau canu unigol gyda Trinity College London.

Gobeithiwn y bydd y cyfle hwn yn annog cystadleuwyr Eisteddfod yr Urdd i gysidro eistedd arholiad canu gyda Trinity ac i gael cymhwyster ffurfiol. Yn ogystal, gobeithiwn y bydd cantorion sy’n paratoi ar gyfer arholiad canu yng Nghymru yn cysidro cystadlu yn Eisteddfod yr Urdd er mwyn datblygu eu sgiliau perfformio.

“Mae Trinity College London yn cydnabod bod yr ansawdd a’r safon a ddisgwylir ar lwyfan yr Urdd yn gydnaws â gofynion arholiad canu Trinity,” meddai Chris Locke, Rheolwr Cyffredinol Trinity College London, UK & Ireland. “I gyd-fynd gyda’n hethos o hyblygrwydd mewn arholiadau ac annog ymgeiswyr i fanteisio ar eu cryfderau, roedd cynnig darnau cystadlaethau Eisteddfod yr Urdd mewn arholiadau yn gam naturiol i ni.”

Dywedodd Llio Maddocks, Trefnydd Cynorthwyol Eisteddfod yr Urdd,

“Mae’r bartneriaeth yn ddatblygiad cyffrous iawn a fydd yn galluogi cystadleuwyr yr Urdd i ddefnyddio’r darn y maen nhw wedi ei ddysgu ar gyfer yr Eisteddfod fel rhan o arholiad canu. Er enghraifft, yn 2018 bydd unawd Bl.2 ac iau yn gymwys ar gyfer arholiad Cychwynnol Trinity, ac Unawdau 3-4 a 5-6 yn gymwys ar gyfer Arholiad Gradd 3 ac unawdau uwchradd hyd at 25 oed yn gymwys am raddau 4 i 8.

“Un o brif amcanion Eisteddfod yr Urdd yw rhoi llwyfan i dalentau plant a phobl ifanc Cymru ac mae’r bartneriaeth hon yn brawf o safon y darnau sy’n cael eu perfformio ar lwyfan yr Urdd ac yn cynnig yr opsiwn i’r cystadleuwyr ddatblygu eu doniau ymhellach ac ennill cymwysterau sy’n cael eu cydnabod yn rhyngwladol.”

Rydym yn falch y bydd nifer o gyfansoddwyr o Gymru yn cael eu cynrychioli yn arholiadau Trinity drwy’r bartneriaeth hon, ac yn cydnabod pwysigrwydd yr iaith Gymraeg a’r rhan bwysig y mae cerddoriaeth yn ei chwarae yn y diwylliant.
