Our Woodwind and Jazz Woodwind syllabuses offer the choice and flexibility to allow candidates to play to their strengths, enabling them to gain recognition for their own unique skills as performers.
Woodwind and Jazz Woodwind syllabuses
The Woodwind and Jazz Woodwind syllabuses are valid from 1 January 2017 to 31 December 2020.
Woodwind syllabus (Initial-Grade 8)
- In response to widespread demand, Initial exams are now available for flute and clarinet
- All instruments feature revised and expertly chosen repertoire, graded and edited by leading music educators
- A new series of nine graded flute books and nine graded clarinet books is now available, containing a varied selection of pieces at each grade
- Score & part and part only allows the widest range of affordability
- CD recordings of all pieces in the books will be released during autumn 2016, featuring performances from flautists David Cuthbert, Rebecca Larsen and Emilia Zakrzewska, and clarinettists Joanne Rozario, Paul Saunders and Christopher Walters
- ‘Minus one’ style backing tracks (recorded on a Yamaha Disklavier) are also included on the CD, allowing students to practise with the piano accompaniment
- New technical work books for Oboe, Bassoon and Recorder contain scales, arpeggios and a new set of exercises for Grades 1-5
- Requirements for aural and improvisation tests have been revised - see the supporting tests page for full details

Jazz Woodwind syllabus (Grades 1-8)
- The latest Jazz Woodwind syllabus contains full details of grade exams for jazz flute, jazz clarinet and jazz saxophone
- Repertoire lists for all instruments have been refreshed
