Welcome to the South African page of the Trinity College London website.
As a former British colony South Africa has been hosting assessments in music and in drama and speech for more than a hundred years. These assessments, conducted by examiners specially flown in from abroad, range from Initial to diploma level.
There are 11 centres in South Africa and one in neighbouring Botswana and in Namibia. These are all situated in the main towns and cities in the provinces. Although most of the examinations take place at these centres there are additional venues in outlying areas.
Trinity qualifications are highly regarded by most tertiary institutions in South Africa, although the level of recognition does vary from one institution to another. The Education Department recognises grades 6 and 7 as an additional subject for Matric, although from 2014 the marks will no longer be included in the total, but it will still appear on the Matric certificate.
Trinity music examinations include the recently introduced Rock & Pop syllabus for contemporary musicians. Other examinations include Drama and Speech, and Trinity is looking at the possibility of introducing English language assessments in the not too distant future.
